INTRODUCTION
Computer Aided Drafting is the art of creating plans for things to build, whether that be small parts, a large table, or even a house. Precision is key within this class, having to be perfect in your dimensions, unless you wish to make the builder fail at making his work. I loved how for most of the class I was able to speed through projects, doing one after another. While I disliked doing the mechanical drawings. The class is also almost purely based off how well you do your projects. Here, you will see many of the amazing projects I have done throughout the course.
Mechanical Drawings
Mechanical Drawings, are drafting projects done entirely on paper. You would use tools such as a 45 triangle, a scale, and a compass. This unit was by far the hardest, due to human error, and neatness on the paper.
AutoCAD
AutoCAD is a software you use to draft. You can only make drawings in 2D with the software, which makes it a bit worse than Onshape, it's also slower to make drawings with the software than Onshape, yet faster than doing Mechanical drawings. Yet it's still very precise.
ONSHAPE
Onshape is another drafting software, it's very easy to use and very efficient. The software was also somewhat fun to use as well. This was definitely the best way to draft small mechanical parts.
Architecture
During this class we also had to do a architecture unit. It was a very unique experience, due to us having drafted small parts throughout the rest of the unit. This software was also very easy to use.
3D PRINTING
3D is the most unique project we did within this class, due to an actual product coming out of what we put into the software. sadly, we did not design anything for this project, it was more so just an introduction into 3D printing itself.
CONCLUSION
I've definitely learned quite a lot over the course, it has opened up brand new opportunities of work for me to specialize in when the time comes to go out into the workforce. I went from making extremely bad plans, to making much higher quality plans than anything I ever made for woodshop in the last two years. I will definitely be taking Architecture and CAD 2 next year, and will even consider doing drafting as a career.
